AWS: ENiCrFe-7 WELDING ELECTRODES

Product data sheet / Overview: (Alloys 690)

ENiCrFe-7 is a nickel-chromium-iron electrode widely used for welding nickel-chromium-iron alloys (Inconel 690 for example) due to its exceptional properties:

  • All-Position Welding : Capable of welding in various positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, overhead).
  • Excellent Corrosion Resistance : Offers superior resistance to various corrosive environments.
  • High-Temperature Strength : Maintains good strength at elevated temperatures.
  • Improved Stress-Corrosion Cracking Resistance : Low carbon content and absence of sigma phase minimize susceptibility to stress-corrosion cracking.

Specifications

  • American Welding Society (AWS) Classification: ENiCrFe-7
  • Conforms to standards(typical) :AWS A5.11, ASME SFA 5.11, EN ISO 18274 (depending on manufacturer)

Chemical Composition (%)

Element Typical %
Nickel (Ni)53-57
Chromium (Cr)27-30
Iron (Fe)8-12
Manganese (Mn)2-4
Columbium + Tantalum (Nb + Ta)1-3
Carbon (C)≤ 0.04

Other elements (depending on manufacturer): Silicon (Si), Sulfur (S)

Note: The specific composition may vary slightly depending on the manufacturer.

Mechanical Properties

  • Yield Strength (MPa):: Refer to manufacturer's datasheet for specific values (typical range: 450-600 MPa).
  • Tensile Strength (MPa): Refer to manufacturer's datasheet for specific values (typical range: 550-750 MPa).
  • Elongation (%): Refer to manufacturer's datasheet for specific values (typical range: 25-40%).
  • Impact Strength(J): Data typically available at room temperature (20°C) and may be specified in Charpy V-notch impact values. Refer to manufacturer's datasheet for details.

Applications

  • Welding nickel-chromium-iron alloys (like Inconel 690) to themselves.
  • Dissimilar welding of nickel-chromium-iron alloys with steels or stainless steels.
  • Applications requiring excellent corrosion resistance and high-temperature strength.
  • Nuclear power components (due to good resistance to stress-corrosion cracking).
  • Chemical processing equipment.
  • Heat exchangers.
  • Exhaust systems.

Storage and Handling

  • Maintain a dry storage environment, free from moisture and contaminants.
  • Adhere to the recommended storage temperature as specified by the manufacturer (typically cool and dry place).
  • Follow proper handling procedures to prevent damage to the electrode coating.

Safety Precautions

  • Welding fumes and gases can be hazardous. Utilize proper ventilation and wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including a welding helmet, respirator, gloves, and flame-retardant clothing.
  • ENiCrFe-7 electrodes can be sharp. Handle with care to avoid cuts.
  • Always follow safety guidelines established by AWS.
